The Carriage House Inn is a charming Chatham bed & breakfast less than one mile from both the Chatham Light Beach and picturesque downtown Chatham, MA on Cape Cod. Built in 1890, the Inn was originally a single-family residence with a separate building for horse stables. The home was renovated and turned into a three-guestroom B&B in the early 1990’s. In 2001, the stables, which had been vacant for years, were turned into guestrooms and in 2007, the dining room, rooms 2 & 3 are being totally renovated, making the Carriage House Inn a gorgeous bed & breakfast. Now, the Inn is recognized as an historic building by American Historic Inns and is an ideal lodging choice for a romantic weekend getaway.
Inside, the decor is traditionally New England. Eighteen guest rooms are located throughout the Inn on two floors. Each has been carefully decorated with antiques and reproduction furnishings in a style all its own. Many feature fireplaces, private balconies, wet bars and queen-size beds. All are air-conditioned with private baths, telephones, cable television and wireless internet access.
Beautiful perennial gardens in full bloom from the spring through the fall and a meticulously groomed lawn surround the Inn. Furnished with Kennedy rocking chairs, the expansive front porch offers a picturesque view of the quiet end of Main Street. It's an ideal place to relax and enjoy a cool drink or afternoon tea and watch the world pass by.
Large White Inn built in 1839 by Whaling Captain Moses Nickerson. Within walking distance of the Inn are tennis and golf courses, bike rentals and miles of unspoiled beaches. The extensive National Seashore is only fifteen minutes away and offers a multitude of biking trails, spectacular beaches and educational experiences. Whale watching cruises are one of the many highlights of Provincetown at the tip of the Cape- a picturesque forty five minute drive.
Murals painted by James Parker, a local artist, in the inn's lounge depict the arrival of Samuel Champlain on Chatham's shores in 1606. A large etched glass window on the northeastern corner of the inn shows an illustrated map of New England done by a Dutch surveyor in 1680. Many paintings and works of fine art illustrate early life on Cape Cod and its seafaring history. Working fireplaces and large private balconies and patios add to the historic ambience of the individually appointed guests rooms. Modern amenities like Jacuzzis, hot tubs and TVs are tastefully integrated, creating the feeling of entering a time capsule from a century ago.
This highly rated Chatham, Massachusetts bed and breakfast has been carefully restored and meticulously maintained and is now entering its third decade of serving the sophisticated traveler. The Inn, a member of Select Registry, Distinguished Inns of North America, has won numerous awards for virtually every aspect of its operation. Designer appointed rooms, delicious breakfasts, professionally designed and maintained landscaping, tranquil koi ponds with a connecting waterfall, and a recently added fitness room, "The Old Harbor Inn has it all.
