Academy Place Bed & Breakfast™ is a 1790s home where you can relax in a historic sea captain's house. Located on the village green, Orleans' shopping district -- with its many fine shops and restaurants -- is just a short walk away. Nauset Beach (Atlantic Ocean) and Skaket Beach (Cape Cod Bay) have abundant swimming and fishing opportunities and are a 5-minute drive from the house, while the bike trail is 3 blocks away. The Cape Cod Seashore National Park visitors' center is 10 minutes by car. Academy Place Bed & Breakfast™ is open from mid-May through mid-October, and has been operated by Sandy and Charles Terrell since 1989. The entire house is air conditioned with individual units in each guest room and central air conditioning in the common areas of the house. The home is furnished with colonial and Victorian era furnishings, including spinning wheels, a fainting couch, bureaus, and spool beds. Upstairs is a guest sitting area with games, puzzles, magazines, books and TV. Downstairs, antique platters decorate the walls of the dining room. Here from 7:30 to 9:00 with lighted candles on Charles' handmade trestle table, Sandy serves an expanded continental breakfast of chilled juices and fresh fruit, homemade muffins or coffee cake, quick breads, toasting breads and a variety of cold cereals. Coffee is brewed fresh each morning, plus there is a choice of teas or hot chocolate.
